More English only ranting from ALIPAC.US. They want to call all the Walmarts and imply there they will boycott if they have bilingual signs.
After one of our debates here, and a visit to our local Walmart with their signs printed in English with smaller print in Spanish, I had a "light bulb" moment. Why not just tell Walmart how we in our family feel about this? So I did, and I am ancouraging you all to do the same, politely, and with no malice, just tell them like I did:
Call to my local Walmart transcript:
Receptionist: "Thank you for calling Wood Village Walmart, how may I direct your call?
Me: Hi, I would like to speak to your store manager please (in my most pleasant voice)."
Receptionist: "Sure, just one moment."
Store manager: "Hi this is Jane Doe, Store Manager, what can I do for you?"
Me: I and my husband had noticed something this last time we were in your store about the signs being in English in large print and Spanish in small print, and my husband asked out loud why these signs were not also in Russian, Chinese or Vietnamese? Why only in Spanish?
Manager: (hesitant pause) Well, um, they do this according to the cities demographics, by what the immigrant majority is in the area of that store, but I'm sure we will be having some new numbers soon and there might be some changes (you see it was at this point I realized she thought I was PC and she had to appease me)."
Me: "Well let me explain my slight sracasm about this, really the point I am trying to make is that we all know that anyone coming to this country legally has to learn English, it is one of the requirements, and we all know that the majority of the people who are here illegally are less likely to know English, and are less inclined to learn English. So it seems to me that the only people Walmart is actually accomodating to are the illegal aliens, and I know with myself and my husband, we find that very wrong because it is helping out people who are not even supposed to be in this country." Not true! English language ability is not required to immigrate to the U.S. Some language ability is required for an adult to become a naturalized citizen. Just goes to show how little ALIPACers know about legal immigration, and again they think anyone speaking Spanish here is an illegal immigrant!
Manager: "Ma'am I understand what you are saying."
Me: "Let me explian why this is really more upsetting. Do you remember when there was a huge migration of people from Cambodia and Vietnam in the late 70's and early 80's?"
Manager: "Yes I do"
Me: "Well I remember vividly that nowhere in our city was there any signs in stores, or any kind of accomodation for these people, they simply learned English and assimilated into American society, and our government granted them assylum due to the political climate within their countries, so they were legally here. I would like you to pass this message on to the person who needs to know, and can do something about it, I would appreciate it very much. I know many people who feel this way and are offended that an American company would accomodate for illegal aliens, and possibly many legal immigrants might also feel offended."
Manager: "Yes I too agree with you on this, I will pass your message on and thank you for calling us about this."
This was pretty much the entire call. We had a pleasant conversation and she said she felt what I said was true. This was a pleasant call, and one that should be made by all of us, it only took about ten minutes. I felt that it was so stupidly simple, and wondered why I had never called them before. This is what they need to hear.
Call all your stores that accomodate. It is not about being mean it is about making it harder for illegal aliens and make them less comfortable, then they might reconsider being here.
I likened it to a child in the store. Ever experience that? They ask for candy, you say no, they start whining, you stand you ground, they scream. Next is what defines us all as parents, one we might stick to our guns, no candy, parent has shown who is boss. Or, we be one of those parents who gave in at the checkstand, thinking they have bought themselves a moments peace but to their dismay, they have just set themselves up for constant fits in the stores because they gave in one time. The illegals are doing the same thing. Our businesses and government have become those "parents" and given in to them, but it will never be enough. So, we Americans need to step in and take over and say no, and no more!
No more accomodating, no more.

This ALIPACer refused to visit her beauty salon until they stop playing Spanish language broadcasting, music, etc.
Simple, quick, elegant -word would get to corporate if we started doing this. I wrote Borics/Hair Salon local and corporate that I would not go to their salon until the foreign language (Spanish) radio station was not playing anymore. I did it politely...but firmly.

Oh my gag reflexes!! Oops, sorry, I didn't mean to offend anyone. I was barfing in Spanish.
Man, I thought I was corny, but this person really tops it off. First off, these people always boost their own egos by making it sound like they've the upper hand. I bet you they got into it and once the guy told her it's based on demographics, she was like "Oh, ok, thank you, bye." Man, where do they come up with this stuff. Oh yeah, I called Wal-Mart and I told them "You better do as I say or else!" and the manager was like "Yes'm! Yes'm! I'll do it right away" and I was like "You better or else!" and the manager was like "Oooooh! Pleease don't hurt me!! Pleease don't boooycott my businesss! Oh the agony! The pain!! Theeeee toooorrrtuuuuure!!! "

Well....I tell you what....their going to have a very hard time getting any results on translated signs....because if they THINK walmart is going to undercut it's stockholders to appease an xenophobic minority, their in for a reality check...WalMart don't care about ANYTHING else but making MONEY...and if these signs are based on demographics for that area, they have even less of a chance....what oxy morons they are...
How does that saying go: Money talks and Bullsh!it walks
However, as far as demographics go....I'd be interested in seeing just 'how' they justify I.C.E raiding or stopping someone because they lQQK or Talk like an 'undocumented'....
Clue: demograpic records indicate the majority of our un/documented come from this country...

Besides that...they'd be stupid to boycott the translations while ignoring the 'international isles' that most large grocery stores have in their stores....
As Im not mistaken those products are in their perspective languages...and not translated in English...
like I said 'oxy morons'...

I just don't get it. These idiots go around saying immigrants don't adjust to our language and that if we go to other countries we'd have to accomodate to their language. However, the whole world has twisted over backwards to learn the English language. What the hell are they talking about other countries not accomodating our language? They all practically speak English!! Even the Alipac's nemisis, Mexico, accomodates to the English speaker. All they got to do is GO to Mexico to figure that out.

If the stations are like the ones in L.A, it's mostly sexual innuendo and Used Cars.
With the occasional skit combining both.
...y mucho, mucho mas!

Here's another one from ALIPAC.US: From a California school teacher - - -"...I am in charge of the English-as-a-second-language department at a large southern California high school..." I'd say by her own admission she is failing at her job... ...I estimate that well over 50% of these students are obese or at least moderately overweight... Sadly they are "assimulating" to the American standard too well. I brought up to Willy that more than the "25 American lives daily" could be saved by focusing more on telling Americans to get at least a little exercise and buckle their seatbelts. He said "It's not the same" (how many of the "25" are overweight, chain-smoking keyboard activists that have a coronary from trumped up online mistruths? I'll put up a picture of the newspaper article interviewing a North Carolina mother *visibly* pregnant puffing on a cigarette, wondering how the noise from jackhammers working in the street will affect her unborn child, just because it seems so Gheenite). ...Take, for example, an illegal alien with a wife and five children. He takes a job for $5.00 or $6.00/hour. At that wage, with six dependents, he pays no income tax, yet at the end of the year, if he files an Income Tax Return, he gets an "earned income credit" of up to $3,200 free... For EIC there has to be a legitimate Social Security number. ITINs won't do it. The example leaves out quite a bit of math as well (generally for any refund or credit you have had to have taxes withheld). I know what other are referring to when they say it doesn't sound like schoolteacher talk. One forum sometime back had an RN say that she had told the employer of an HIV-positive [that she "was almost certain" was an] illegal immigrant his health status for spite. My reply back is that she had violated the law and medical ethics any nurse should have known. I've heard another say they were a "retired prison gaurd"...
